Dubai-Inspired Urban Destination to Rise in Lugbe, Promising Jobs, Tourism, and a Major Boost to FCT’s Economy
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MAG International Links Ltd to develop “City Walk Abuja”, a modern urban destination inspired by Dubai’s famed City Walk. The project is expected to transform Abuja’s landscape and drive major economic growth, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described the project as a game-changer for the capital city, promising a carefully curated blend of residential, commercial, retail, hospitality, healthcare, and institutional facilities across a vast 200-hectare site in the Lugbe axis, along Airport Road.
“This is not just another land allocation,” Wike said. “We are entering a binding agreement. If the investor fails to comply with the agreed development timelines and specifications, we will revoke the land. We will no longer tolerate speculators who acquire land and do nothing for decades.”
According to the minister, the site originally earmarked for the Abuja Technology Village has remained undeveloped for 20 years due to land-grabbing and speculator activity. With this new initiative, the area will now be repurposed into a dynamic city destination that fosters tourism, investment, and employment.
“This development is in line with our goal to attract serious investors and generate jobs for our people. Anyone who has been to Dubai and seen the City Walk will understand the value such a project brings,” Wike stated.
The project will be executed in phases, with groundwork expected to begin between July and August 2025. The first phase is scheduled for completion in May 2026, in time to commemorate President Tinubu’s third year in office. The FCTA has already approved MAG International’s site drawings and issued its Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O), removing all bureaucratic hurdles to ensure smooth execution.
The FCTA also pledged to provide access roads and legal backing to enable immediate mobilization to the site. Key agency heads from the Department of Development Control and the Department of Lands were present to underscore institutional support and ensure that no bottlenecks arise.
Dr. Kassim Gidado, Executive Director of MAG International Links Ltd, expressed his confidence in the project’s success, citing improved investor confidence in the FCT under the current administration.
“City Walk Abuja will not just mirror Dubai’s; it will surpass it,” Gidado said. “It will be tailored to reflect Nigerian culture and aesthetics while delivering sustainability, elegance, and economic value. We aim to redefine the urban experience in Abuja and turn the Lugbe axis into a premium destination.”
The City Walk Abuja project marks one of the most ambitious urban renewal and investment partnerships in recent FCT history poised to reshape Abuja’s economic and infrastructural landscape for decades to come.
