Party dismisses “crisis merchants” and external forces behind alleged plot, declares full support for Oyebanji’s second-term bid
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has strongly refuted claims suggesting that former Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi is plotting to destabilise the party or planning a defection through secret meetings with political stakeholders.
The party, through its State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, issued a statement on Sunday describing the rumour as a fabricated tale pushed by mischief makers aiming to sow discord within the party ranks ahead of the next governorship election.
“We are in the season of propaganda. Lies, half-truths, and misleading narratives are being circulated to confuse the public,” Dipe stated, urging the public to disregard such reports. “Anyone seeking accurate information about our party’s activities should contact me, rather than rely on gutter gossip,” he added.
The dismissed report had alleged that current Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other APC leaders were uneasy about a purported meeting Fayemi was organising to signal his alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, Dipe labelled the claim baseless.
He emphasised that Fayemi remains a key figure in the party and would never act to undermine the structure he helped to build. “Fayemi is a pillar of the APC in Ekiti. If he calls any meeting, it is to strengthen, not weaken, our chances in the coming election,” he affirmed.
Dipe further underlined that all APC stakeholders in the state are united in their backing of Governor Oyebanji’s re-election bid. “Governor Oyebanji has impressed both the party and the electorate. All leaders, including Fayemi, agree he deserves a second term,” he said.
Responding to concerns about possible internal sabotage, Dipe warned against what he called “crisis merchants” and “meddlesome interlopers” working to exploit perceived divisions within the party. “We are aware of both external forces and enemies within who seek to trigger chaos, but they will not succeed,” he declared.
On the growing wave of endorsements for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji by various political groups in Ekiti, the APC spokesman stated that while the party may not be directly behind all endorsements, it sees them as healthy steps toward political consolidation.
“We are not gamblers. We are a focused party working towards a clear goal—winning back-to-back governorship and presidential elections. The distractions from lesser parties are of no concern to us,” Dipe concluded.
With the APC positioning itself for historic continuity in Ekiti State governance, the party leadership is projecting a strong front of internal cohesion and readiness to confront any disruptive narratives ahead of the next political contest.
