Ododo-led administration prioritizes the education sector, as NTI matriculates new students in Lokoja
The Kogi State Government has reiterated its unwavering support for education, particularly in initiatives aimed at enhancing teacher training and repositioning the sector for future excellence.
This assurance was given by the state Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, during the 2025 matriculation ceremony of new students at the Kogi State Study Centre of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) in Lokoja. Represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Omolayo Berikisu Onozare, Jones emphasized the critical role of teachers in shaping the future of children and the nation at large.
He highlighted the substantial budgetary allocation made by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to the education sector, noting that the administration would not compromise on the training and welfare of teachers under any circumstances. He also encouraged the new students to remain focused and committed to their academic pursuits.
The Director-General and Chief Executive of NTI, Professor Sadiya Daura, represented by the Kogi State Coordinator, Alhaji Tijani Yusuf, underscored the importance of discipline among students. She reiterated the institute’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and urged the new intakes to aspire towards making a meaningful impact through their training.
Speaking at the event, the Director of News and Publications in the Kogi State Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Samuel Atuluku, expressed concern over the growing "get-rich-quick" mentality among youths. He called on parents to instill discipline in their children and redirect them towards purposeful living that guarantees a brighter future.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath to new students admitted into various programmes, including the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Bachelor’s Degree, and Postgraduate Degree courses in Education. The event marked a pivotal moment in the academic journey of the students, who are expected to be equipped with relevant skills that will contribute to national development.
