‎Real estate developer turned politician critically injured in late-night ambush; police yet to confirm details as party braces for possible campaign disruption

‎ABUJA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra State election, Jude Ezenwafor, was shot on Friday night in Abuja by unidentified gunmen, leaving him critically injured.

‎According to sources, the attack occurred near Wuse 2 as Ezenwafor was returning from an engagement. He was reportedly ambushed by armed men and sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Two individuals accompanying him also suffered injuries during the attack.

‎Ezenwafor, a prominent Abuja-based real estate developer who recently clinched the PDP ticket unopposed for the November 8, 2025, election, is currently receiving emergency treatment at a private hospital. Medical personnel are preparing him for surgery to extract bullets from his body.

‎As of press time, the motive behind the attack and the identity of the assailants remain unknown. Security agencies have launched an investigation, although the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, told Sunday Vanguard she was yet to be briefed on the incident.

‎Party insiders expressed deep concern, noting that the development could significantly disrupt PDP’s campaign momentum, depending on the extent of Ezenwafor’s injuries and his recovery timeline.

‎The incident adds a chilling layer of uncertainty to the political atmosphere in Anambra State as the gubernatorial race heats up.
