‎With Modric and Vazquez departing, Real Madrid appoints new captains as questions linger over Vinicius' future

‎Real Madrid has confirmed a reshuffle in its leadership ranks following the departures of long-serving stars Luka Modric and Lucas Vázquez. In a move that signals both continuity and change, Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior and Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut  Courtois have been promoted to the club’s captaincy group.

‎Right-back Dani Carvajal, who returns from a serious knee injury that sidelined him for much of last season, now assumes the role of club captain. Midfield dynamo Federico Valverde has been named vice-captain, followed by Courtois and Vinicius as third and fourth in the leadership hierarchy, respectively.

‎The decision was finalized through collaboration between club officials and head coach Xabi Alonso, highlighting the club’s strategic approach to maintaining a stable dressing room environment amid ongoing transitions.

‎Both Vinicius and Courtois have long been key figures within the squad — their influence extending beyond the pitch. However, the appointment comes at a time when uncertainty clouds Vinicius’ long-term future in Madrid. Although his contract runs until 2027, negotiations for an extension have stalled, and rumors persist of a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League.

‎Meanwhile, Real Madrid is ramping up preparations for the upcoming La Liga season, set to kick off in less than a month with a home clash against Osasuna. The club is also expected to remain active in the transfer market as the summer window continues.

‎As the team transitions into a new chapter, all eyes will be on how the refreshed leadership core guides the European giants through what promises to be a compelling season.
