Former Ogun governor accuses Dapo Abiodun’s administration of abuse of power over quit and demolition notices issued to his Sagamu residence and hotels.
Former governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has accused Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration of political persecution following threats to demolish three of his properties in Sagamu.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Steve Oliyide, Daniel revealed that officials claiming to be agents of the Ogun State government served Notices of Contravention, Quit Notices, and demolition threats on his private residence, Asoludero Court, as well as Conference Hotel Limited and its annex, all located in Sagamu Local Government Area. The notices, dated August 8, 2025, were delivered simultaneously late Friday afternoon.
Daniel described the action as “malicious, vindictive, and a blatant abuse of power,” alleging that the government is retroactively applying the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 to buildings that were legally constructed long before the law came into existence. He noted that the Asoludero Court was built in 2004, the Conference Hotel in 2013, and the annex in 2015.
According to him, the issuance of both a contravention notice and a quit notice at the same time, alongside an immediate demolition threat, violates due process. “This is not a legal process; it is a thuggish tactic designed to intimidate and inflict damage,” he said.
Daniel further alleged that the move is part of a pattern of targeted attacks, recalling the September 2023 midnight demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu Ode, a property belonging to his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, which he claimed was carried out on flimsy grounds. In that case, he noted, is still in court, with the state government having lost multiple applications both at the Ogun State High Court and the Court of Appeal in Ibadan.
Calling on the public, human rights groups, and legal bodies to condemn what he described as “egregious abuse of power,” Daniel vowed to challenge the actions through all legal means.
