Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.Shaba Aliyu, Sentome Obi, and others to be decorated for exceptional integrity and service as Police Force boosts morale through merit-based recognition.
In a groundbreaking move to foster integrity, boost morale, and promote meritocracy, the Nigeria Police Force will on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, decorate outstanding officers with new ranks at a high-profile ceremony in Abuja. The event, scheduled for 12 noon at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, will see top-performing officers honoured with accelerated promotions approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Leading the list of honorees is CSP Shaba Aliyu, who has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police for emerging as Police Officer of the Year 2023. Also to be decorated is SP Sentome Obi, promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police for clinching the Police Officer of the Year 2024 award. Both promotions take effect from December 31st of their respective award years.
In a show of appreciation and prestige, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the deployment of a police jet to transport ACP Shaba and CSP Obi to Abuja for the ceremony. Their portraits have already been placed at the main entrance of the Force Headquarters and are being displayed at all Zonal and State Command Headquarters in recognition of their outstanding service.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the promotion exercise is a fulfillment of the Force's earlier commitment to reward officers who repeatedly distinguish themselves in service.
"These are not just promotions. They are public endorsements of excellence. A national salute to officers who, despite the odds, chose the path of integrity and reminded us what true service looks like," the statement read.
The IGP’s commitment to reward excellence was formally declared in Press Release No. CZ:5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/472 dated July 25, 2025. It stated that any officer who has been named Police Officer of the Year or received IGP recognition awards twice in two consecutive years would be recommended for accelerated promotion.
Following a resolution from the Force Management Team meeting held on June 23, 2025, the names of qualifying officers were forwarded to the PSC, which has now granted approval for the promotions.
In addition to Shaba and Obi, other officers who have either won awards in two consecutive cycles or received multiple commendation letters, particularly those serving at the IGP Secretariat are also benefitting from this round of accelerated promotions.
