Mr. Stephen Momoh and his crewState Government reaffirms commitment to quality healthcare and nurses’ welfare as Fellowship of Christian Nurses of Nigeria prepares for August 2025 gathering in Lokoja.
The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare across local communities, with the construction of about 70 new primary healthcare centres currently underway.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Stephen Momoh, said the initiative is part of a long-term strategy to ensure every citizen benefits from high-standard medical services. He noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration is equally committed to improving nurses’ welfare, describing the state’s nursing workforce as a pride to the healthcare sector.
Mr. Momoh made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the National Executives of the Fellowship of Christian Nurses of Nigeria (FCNN) ahead of their Annual National Conference, scheduled to hold from Tuesday, August 12 to Friday, August 15, 2025, at Knowledge of Truth Ministry, Lokoja. The event, themed “Making Presence Count in Nursing Practice” (Luke 10:33), will gather nursing professionals from across the country for professional training and spiritual renewal.
National President of the Fellowship, Evangelist Abalis Dasat, lauded the state government for supporting the conference and for implementing policies that address critical health issues, particularly in maternal and child care. He also stressed the link between poverty and health challenges, praising the administration’s timely interventions.
Kogi State Zonal President, Maha Benjamin, appealed for more nurse recruitment in line with the World Health Organisation’s recommendation of one nurse per eight patients. She highlighted that the conference will feature seminars, career talks, counselling sessions, spiritual activities, and entertainment to strengthen nurses’ competence and compassion.
Director of Nursing, Mrs. Martina Oguche, described the upcoming conference as “life-transforming,” promising it will inspire greater compassion in caregiving and raise professional standards in the state.
The meeting was attended by senior ministry officials and FCNN leaders, including Rev. Fali Wajauba (National Vice President), Mrs. Martha Kolo (National Treasurer), Mr. Shadrach Hammayaji (National Auditor), Mr. Joshua Maigandi (National Prayer Coordinator), Dr. Peter Elisha Maji (Executive Director), Pastor Anthony Ojie (Director of Training), and Elder Lazarus Ekpenyong (Calabar Liaison Officer).
Delivering the vote of thanks, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Mr. Johnson Aiyedogbon, commended the Fellowship’s vision and pledged continued collaboration to enhance healthcare delivery in the state.
