Oliseh Reveals €187m Price Tag That Scared Off Europe’s Elite From Osimhen football icon and FIFA Technical Committee member Sunday Oliseh has shed light on why Europe’s top clubs avoided making a move for Victor Osimhen, revealing that the true cost of signing the Super Eagles striker ballooned to around €187 million.
Speaking in a video that went viral on social media, the former Nigeria captain explained that while Napoli’s reported asking price stood at €75 million, the overall financial commitment was far greater once wages and contractual clauses were factored in. “For the fans, football is passion, love, but for all the actors involved in football, it is business,” Oliseh stressed
According to his breakdown, the €75 million transfer fee was only part of the deal. Napoli also inserted a 10% future resale clause, while Osimhen’s net salary demands of €15 million a year translated to a gross wage bill of €28 million annually. Over a four-year contract, that meant approximately €112 million in wages alone. “The real price for acquiring and maintaining Osimhen is €187m,” Oliseh noted, adding that this figure ultimately priced out many European giants.
Osimhen’s long-running transfer saga ended with a shock switch to Turkish champions Galatasaray, the most expensive signing in Turkish football history. The Istanbul club reportedly paid Napoli the full €75 million upfront and agreed to meet his hefty wage demands.
The 25-year-old missed Galatasaray’s opening Turkish Super Lig match, a 3-0 win over Gaziantep, but showed his support by posting a video of himself watching the game with the caption, “Big mood, we keep going!” He is expected to make his debut in their next league fixture against Fatih Karagumruk at Rams Park.
For Osimhen, the move offers both a lucrative contract and the chance to continue competing at a high level, even if it came outside the traditional power leagues of Europe.
