‎Council chairman condemns attack, vows justice for slain officers

‎Gunmen on Sunday, September 21, 2025, laid a deadly ambush on Ilafin Road in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing two officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to Mobile Police Squadron 70.

‎The attack, which has thrown the community into mourning, has been described as a direct assault on peace and security by the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area, Dr. Joshua Dare Monday. Confirming the incident in a statement, he said the council received the sad news of the killings with deep shock and grief, noting that the ambush was a calculated attempt by criminal elements to destabilise the society and instill fear among residents.

‎Dr. Monday lamented the brutal murder of the policemen, describing them as gallant officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. He emphasised that their selfless service to safeguard lives and property within Yagba East and beyond would never be forgotten, adding that their courage and loyalty to the nation will remain etched in the memory of the community.

‎Extending his condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigeria Police, the Kogi State Command, and the wider security community, the chairman expressed solidarity with those directly affected by the tragic incident. He called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the ambush, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure that justice is served without delay.

‎According to him, no act of violence or criminality can overshadow the government’s determination to sustain peace and security across the local government. He reiterated his administration’s unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property across all communities under his watch, stressing that such acts of evil would never succeed in breaking the resilience of the people.

‎While the tragic development continues to stir reactions across Yagba East and beyond, the Kogi State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
