Commissioner Miller Dantawaye rallies senior officers, emphasizes interagency synergy, and residents’ support to tackle emerging threats
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has unveiled a renewed security strategy aimed at tackling the state’s pressing security challenges. Speaking during a high-level conference with senior officers on Friday, the police chief underscored the urgent need for enhanced cooperation among security agencies, stronger community involvement, and improved capacity of police operatives to curb crime and insecurity across the state.
The strategic conference, held at the police command headquarters, brought together Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Area Commanders, Tactical and Operational Commanders, as well as heads of specialized units and sections. It served as a platform for assessing the current security landscape, brainstorming solutions, and adopting comprehensive crime-prevention measures to respond to emerging threats.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, the meeting produced a holistic framework designed to curtail criminal activities while ensuring the safety of lives and property. Commissioner Dantawaye was said to have restated his commitment to equipping officers with modern skills through ongoing combat operations training, which he noted is essential for effectively addressing evolving security challenges.
The Commissioner also emphasized that effective policing cannot thrive in isolation. He highlighted the critical role of interagency cooperation in combating insecurity, stressing that security is a collective responsibility that requires synergy among law enforcement and sister agencies. In addition, he charged his senior officers to cultivate stronger ties with local communities, stressing that residents must be seen as vital partners in the fight against crime.
He appealed to the people of Kogi State to remain proactive in sharing credible intelligence that could aid the police in preventing, detecting, and controlling criminal activities. Community participation, he maintained, is a cornerstone of effective policing and must be encouraged at every level.
In further directives, Dantawaye tasked Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to convene regular strategic meetings with community leaders, youth groups, and other critical stakeholders. Such engagements, he said, are crucial for identifying peculiar security challenges within local jurisdictions and addressing them before they escalate.
By fostering open communication channels between security operatives and the public, the Commissioner expressed optimism that the command would be able to build trust, strengthen intelligence-gathering, and significantly reduce criminal incidents across the state.
The renewed push for cooperation, capacity building, and community engagement reflects the police command’s determination to restore public confidence and ensure a more secure environment for residents of Kogi State.
