Commissioners highlight balanced development, erosion control, and improved access for rural communities
The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building and rehabilitating road networks across the state, with a clear focus on enhancing the transportation of goods and services, easing movement for residents, and boosting the local economy.
Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muhammed Yusuf, made this known on Tuesday in Abejukolo during a tour of ongoing infrastructure projects in Kogi East. He noted that Governor Usman Ododo’s administration is prioritising grassroots development by ensuring that communities are connected through accessible and durable roads.
Yusuf pointed to the ongoing reconstruction of the 10-kilometre Bagana–Abejukolo dual carriage road in Abejukolo, headquarters of Omala Local Government Area. According to him, the project is designed to reduce travel hardship, facilitate the transportation of farm produce, and open up opportunities for economic growth within the region.
“We commend Governor Ododo for the love he has for the people at the grassroots by creating accessibility from one community to another. This will ease movement for motorists, improve access to markets, and ensure farm produce gets to buyers without delay,” he said.
Also speaking during the tour, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, stressed that the administration is not only committed to executing projects but also to ensuring fairness in how projects are distributed across the state. He explained that the governor is determined to balance development across the three senatorial districts of Kogi.
“It is not about executing projects but balancing them across the three senatorial districts. We have seen massive road projects in Kogi West; today, we are witnessing the same in Kogi East, and by next week, attention will shift to the Central Senatorial District. This government is deliberate about inclusive growth,” Fanwo stated.
The Commissioner further assured that the administration will continue to embark on projects aimed at improving the standard of living for residents, particularly those in rural communities who rely heavily on road networks for their daily livelihood.
At Ankpa, Yusuf disclosed that government interventions through erosion control and road projects have already begun yielding results. The projects, executed under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) initiative, have helped reduce flooding and erosion in the area. He highlighted the construction of one-by-one meter height drains that serve as effective channels to control erosion in Ankpa and its surrounding communities.
The Commissioners reiterated that Governor Ododo’s administration is resolute in pursuing infrastructural development that directly impacts the lives of the people, making roads safer, markets more accessible, and communities more connected than ever before.
