Annual agricultural intervention set to boost food security in line with Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” Agenda
The Shuaibu Abubakar Audu Foundation has announced the commencement of this year’s massive agricultural intervention program with the distribution of 10,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers across Kogi State. The flag-off ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the residence of the late political icon, Prince Abubakar Audu, in GRA, Lokoja. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will cover beneficiaries across all 21 local government areas of the state.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Foundation’s Founder and Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu. According to the Foundation, the program is part of its commitment to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s “Renewed Hope” Agenda, particularly in the area of food security and sustainable agricultural practices.
Over the years, the Shuaibu Abubakar Audu Foundation has built a reputation for impactful humanitarian and community development programs. Last year, the Foundation supported hundreds of indigent students in Kogi State with scholarships and learning materials, reaffirming its dedication to education as a tool for empowerment. In addition, the Foundation has provided medical outreach programs in rural communities, giving thousands of residents access to healthcare services they might otherwise be unable to afford. It has also facilitated youth empowerment initiatives, offering seed capital and vocational training to young entrepreneurs.
The upcoming fertilizer distribution, however, underscores a strategic shift toward strengthening the agricultural sector, which employs a significant portion of Kogi’s population. By supplying fertilizer to farmers at no cost, the Foundation aims to improve crop yields, reduce the burden of high farm input costs, and ultimately ensure that local farmers remain competitive while contributing to the state and national food basket.
Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, who has consistently emphasized the importance of philanthropy and legacy, described the initiative as a way of building upon the values and vision of his late father, Prince Abubakar Audu, the former governor of Kogi State. He said: “Agriculture remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, and we must strengthen it for the nation to achieve food sufficiency and long-term economic stability. This fertilizer distribution is not just about supporting farmers, it is about securing the future of our people and our country.”
With the high cost of fertilizers in the market and the challenges faced by farmers in accessing quality inputs, this gesture is expected to bring significant relief. Farmers across the 21 local government areas are already mobilizing in anticipation of the distribution, which many say will ease their struggle ahead of the next planting season.
The Shuaibu Abubakar Audu Foundation’s consistency in delivering life-touching interventions has earned it respect and recognition both within and outside Kogi State. With this latest agricultural boost, the Foundation is once again demonstrating that private initiatives, when aligned with government policies, can accelerate development and bring tangible benefits to ordinary citizens.
