Over 3,000 officers deployed, road diversions introduced, and residents urged to stay vigilant
Security has been tightened across Imo State as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepares to visit the state for a series of official engagements. The Imo State Police Command, working in synergy with otherp security agencies, announced a comprehensive security plan to guarantee a safe and hitch-free visit.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, security operatives have been strategically deployed to cover all entry and exit points into the state, as well as major routes leading from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport to Owerri metropolis and adjoining local government areas. The deployment also extends to all venues designated for the President’s engagements.
According to Okoye, “Operation Show of Force” and visibility patrols have been activated across the three senatorial districts of Imo State. These measures, he said, are intended to reassure residents, deter criminal elements, and ensure total security coverage before, during, and after the President’s stay in the state.
The police, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), have also stationed traffic wardens at identified congestion-prone areas within Owerri and other parts of the state. This is aimed at ensuring free flow of traffic, smooth vehicular movement, and minimal disruption to residents’ daily activities throughout the visit.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, while addressing the public, reassured citizens and visitors of their safety. He urged them to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security operatives, and comply with traffic diversions and other safety measures that have been put in place.
Danjuma emphasized that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant, united, and fully prepared to decisively deal with any individuals or groups attempting to foment trouble or disrupt the peace. “Anyone caught engaging in acts capable of undermining the security of the state will be promptly arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.
The Command further appealed to members of the public to support security efforts by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency hotlines.
With these robust security arrangements, authorities are optimistic that President Tinubu’s visit to Imo will proceed smoothly, leaving no room for criminal activities or breaches of peace.
