Authorities intensify surveillance and strengthen coordination with security agencies as Governor Ododo reaffirms commitment to protecting lives and property across the state
The Kogi State Government has urged residents to remain calm yet vigilant following intelligence reports indicating a planned terrorist attack targeting parts of Kogi and neighboring Ondo States.
In a statement released by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government described the intelligence as a testament to the alertness and effectiveness of Nigeria’s security agencies. He commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for uncovering the plot and providing early intelligence capable of preventing potential loss of lives and property.
“The intelligence report itself is proof that our security agencies are alive to their responsibilities,” Fanwo stated. “We commend the DSS for their proactive efforts, vigilance, and professionalism in identifying and tracking criminal plans before they materialize. Their work has once again shown that Nigeria’s security system is responsive and capable.”
The Commissioner assured citizens that the Kogi State Government is in close coordination with the DSS, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to ensure that any attempt by terrorists or criminal groups is neutralized before posing a threat. He emphasized that the government’s approach to security is both preventive and decisive, aimed at maintaining the peace and safety Kogi State is known for.
“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has placed the safety of lives and property at the heart of his administration’s agenda,” Fanwo said. “Since assuming office, the Governor has reinforced strategic security measures across the State, particularly in border communities that require heightened surveillance and intelligence-sharing with neighboring states.”
He further noted that the government has intensified patrols, upgraded security monitoring systems, and improved coordination among law enforcement agencies to ensure a quick response to any suspicious activity. The Commissioner appealed to residents to remain calm, conduct their normal daily activities without fear, and to promptly report any unusual movement or persons to the nearest security formation.
“The Government will protect the people at all costs,” Fanwo reiterated. “We will not allow criminals or terror elements to undermine the peace and progress our State has built over the years. Kogi remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, and we are determined to keep it that way through strategic vigilance and strong collaboration with federal security bodies.”
While urging citizens not to panic, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of community participation in maintaining security, adding that the government’s proactive stance and the recent intelligence reports are positive signs that security agencies are on top of the situation.
With security agencies on high alert and preventive measures already activated, the Kogi State Government assured residents that the administration of Governor Ododo remains unwavering in its mission to safeguard the lives, livelihoods, and stability of every citizen within the State’s borders.
