Gov Usman OdodoKogi Governor Commends Oyebanji’s Performance Across Sectors, Applauds His Use of Local Contractors and Fiscal Discipline in Driving Ekiti’s Development
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has lauded his Ekiti State counterpart, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing him as a leader who came fully prepared for the responsibilities of governance and has so far demonstrated uncommon capacity and focus in steering the affairs of Ekiti State.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the commissioning of the newly constructed 21-kilometre Ikere–Ilawe Road and the renovated General Hospital in Ilawe Ekiti, Governor Ododo said Oyebanji’s performance over the last three years clearly reflects a deep understanding of leadership, purposeful planning, and commitment to service delivery.
Ododo noted that the remarkable achievements recorded across key sectors of Ekiti’s economy stand as verifiable evidence of a government that has fulfilled its social contract with the people. He praised Oyebanji for prioritizing local content in project execution by engaging indigenous contractors, describing the move as a deliberate step toward empowering citizens and strengthening human capital development within the state.
The Kogi governor emphasized that such a people-oriented approach speaks volumes about Oyebanji’s belief in harnessing domestic resources for sustainable growth. According to him, Ekiti State under Oyebanji has witnessed visible transformation in infrastructure, human capital development, tourism, agriculture, and youth empowerment—areas that, he said, collectively demonstrate a leadership anchored on inclusion, transparency, and accountability.
Ododo further commended the Ekiti governor for maintaining an unwavering focus on development without resorting to borrowing, even in the face of economic challenges confronting subnational governments. He described Oyebanji’s fiscal prudence as a model for other states, stressing that the governor’s achievements reflect discipline, innovation, and effective resource management.
In his response, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to Ododo for his words of encouragement and for identifying with the progress being made in Ekiti. He described the completion of the Ikere–Ilawe Road as a “jinx-breaking expedition,” highlighting the project’s significance in easing transportation, promoting trade, and enhancing inter-community connectivity.
Oyebanji credited the success of his administration’s capital projects to the economic reforms being undertaken at the federal level by President Bola Tinubu. He disclosed that his government has not borrowed any funds to finance its ongoing infrastructure drive, attributing the feat to the increased financial inflows made possible through Tinubu’s reform initiatives.
“I have not borrowed a dime to fund any of the capital projects going on in Ekiti State, and this is because of the audacious reforms being carried out by President Tinubu, which have made more resources available to states,” Oyebanji stated.
The Ekiti governor reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a transparent, inclusive, and development-driven administration that will continue to deliver projects and policies that impact lives positively. He noted that his government’s focus remains on expanding opportunities, creating jobs, and ensuring that every sector of Ekiti’s economy contributes meaningfully to the overall prosperity of the state.
The event drew a large crowd of residents, political leaders, and community stakeholders who turned out to witness the inauguration of the projects and to celebrate what many described as a new era of sustainable development and prudent governance in Ekiti State.
