Party moves to affirm Oyebanji as consensus candidate, pledges transparent and peaceful process

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has been appointed as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Election Committee for Ekiti State, as preparations intensify for the 2026 governorship election.

The appointment was confirmed in a formal communication signed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and addressed to the Ekiti State Party Chairman, Mr. Sola Eleshin. The letter emphasized the party’s commitment to a credible and transparent process that will reflect the collective will of its members in the state.

Governor Ododo will lead a high-powered committee tasked with overseeing the primary election scheduled to take place on Monday at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti. The exercise is expected to formally affirm the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, as the party’s sole governorship candidate under a consensus arrangement widely supported by party stakeholders.

Edo State Governor, Monday Okhpebolo, has been appointed as the deputy chairman of the committee, while Mr. Taiwo Sunmonu will serve as secretary. Other members of the committee include Iyom Nikky Ejezie, Elis Abraham, Rufus Bature, Latif Ibirogba, Dr. Chibuzor Agu, Chief Dr. Gabriel Oyebode, Chief Hope Dike, and Shehu Umaru.

According to party sources, the APC leadership adopted a consensus model to strengthen unity and minimize internal friction ahead of the 2026 polls. The arrangement is designed to consolidate Governor Oyebanji’s performance-driven leadership and ensure continuity of governance in the state.

Ahead of the primary, the party had earlier conducted ward congresses across all local government areas, with five delegates elected per ward to participate in the formal affirmation process. Reports from the field described the exercise as peaceful and orderly.

Chairman of the Congress Committee, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, commended the decorum and discipline displayed by party members during the congress. He applauded their commitment to democratic values, describing the process as a model of internal party stability and cohesion.

Governor Oyebanji, while addressing party faithful in Ikogosi Ekiti, hailed the consensus arrangement as a demonstration of the APC’s maturity and collective resolve to sustain good governance in Ekiti State. He expressed appreciation to the party’s national and state leadership for their confidence in his administration, pledging to justify the trust reposed in him through continued delivery of development-oriented policies.

Oyebanji further assured supporters that the APC in Ekiti was well-positioned to achieve record-breaking victories not only in the 2026 governorship election but also in the 2027 general elections. He urged members to remain united, focused, and committed to the ideals of the party, emphasizing that the strength of the APC lies in its ability to work together for the common good of the people.

With the Ododo-led committee now inaugurated, all eyes are on the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion where the affirmation exercise is expected to mark the official beginning of APC’s campaign journey toward retaining the governorship seat in 2026. The ruling party’s leadership has reiterated its determination to ensure that the process remains transparent, credible, and reflective of the people’s choice.
