Party leadership assures equal opportunity for all aspirants as nomination sales begin, urges unity and calm ahead of December primaries
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has released a detailed schedule for its upcoming Local Government primary elections, with strong assurances that the process will be transparent, peaceful, and open to all eligible aspirants.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lokoja, the State Chairman of the APC, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, stressing that every aspirant would enjoy a level playing field in line with the guidelines issued by both the APC and the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
Bello emphasized that the APC remains a party rooted in inclusiveness and encouraged all interested members to participate without fear, intimidation, or undue interference. He noted that the party had put mechanisms in place to ensure complaints and clarifications are received and addressed openly throughout the process, reinforcing trust in the system.
The chairman expressed deep appreciation to party members and citizens for their unwavering loyalty to the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. According to him, the successes recorded so far by the state government are a direct result of the collective dedication, cooperation, and solidarity of APC members and supporters across the state.
He noted that the Ododo administration remains focused on delivering democratic dividends transparently and equitably, regardless of political affiliation. “Kogi State is one family and one people,” he said, reaffirming the government’s resolve to sustain statewide development and unity.
As the election timetable progresses, Bello called on aspirants and their supporters to uphold peace and decorum, urging them to avoid actions capable of causing acrimony or bitterness. He stressed that the real beneficiaries of the process would be the people of Kogi State, adding that there would be “no victor, no vanquished” at the end of the primaries.
The APC also urged party faithful to remain vigilant and steadfast, noting that loyalty to its ideals has been crucial to the party’s sustained influence in the state.
According to the released schedule, the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms commenced on 27 November and will run through 1 December at the APC State Secretariat in Lokoja. Completed forms are to be submitted between 2 and 3 December.
Screening of aspirants will take place on 4 December, followed by the publication of the initial list of qualified aspirants, an appeal window, and the release of the final list on 5 December.
The party’s primary elections are slated for 6 December and will run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with results expected to be announced later that same day after verification.
As preparations intensify, the Kogi APC reiterated its readiness to conduct a credible and rancour-free exercise that reflects the aspirations of its members and the expectations of the people.
