Governor urges responsible use of vehicles as tools for community development; reiterates commitment to inclusive, people-centered leadership across all 21 LGAs.
In a strategic move to strengthen grassroots governance and deepen development across Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has presented brand new official vehicles to the Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. The presentation ceremony took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Center in Lokoja, drawing top government functionaries, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from across the state.
Governor Ododo stated that the initiative was aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of the local government chairmen, enabling them to better reach rural communities, supervise projects, and facilitate more effective delivery of governance at the grassroots.
“These official vehicles are not symbols of status,” the Governor emphasized. “They are tools for service. I expect that they will be used judiciously and strictly to advance development across our communities.”
He urged the beneficiaries to ensure responsible use of the vehicles, stressing that they should serve as instruments to drive socio-economic improvements in the localities they represent. Governor Ododo further called on the chairmen to complement the state government's efforts in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and security.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Ozigi Deedat described the occasion as a historic milestone and a clear demonstration of the Ododo administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and developmental impact. He noted that it was the first time such a gesture was being made under the current administration and praised the Governor’s leadership for creating an enabling environment for local government officials to function optimally.
“Your leadership style and determination are providing the right environment for chairmen to discharge their duties effectively,” Deedat said, urging the chairmen to remain supportive of the administration’s goals for rural transformation.
