Council assures candidates of result release by August 4, warns public against false information
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has categorically denied rumours circulating on social media about the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), describing the claims as entirely false and the work of "mischief-makers."
A fake press release surfaced online on Saturday, July 19, 2025, alleging that the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC had jointly annulled the 2025 WASSCE over alleged widespread malpractice, question paper leaks, and unauthorised digital sharing of exam content.
Reacting swiftly, WAEC issued an official statement on Sunday, July 20, 2025, signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, in which the Council firmly dismissed the claims as baseless and misleading.
“The said examination has not been cancelled,” the statement affirmed. “Though the source of the information cannot be traced, the Council is convinced that this falsehood is being spread by individuals intent on discrediting the Council and creating unnecessary panic among candidates.”
WAEC further assured the public that the marking of examination scripts has been completed and that candidates can expect their results on or before Thursday, August 4, 2025.
Emphasising transparency and credibility, the Council reiterated that all official information is disseminated through its verified social media handles, accredited media channels, and the Public Affairs Department.
“We therefore urge our stakeholders and the general public to disregard the said publication,” WAEC concluded.
The Council’s clarification has brought relief to thousands of students and parents nationwide who were unsettled by the earlier false report.
