Swift counter-kidnapping operation leads to rescue of victim, recovery of rifles, cash, and arrest of gang leaders terrorizing Abuja residents
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have dealt a heavy blow to a notorious kidnapping syndicate after arresting two of its ringleaders and recovering cash and sophisticated weapons used in their operations.
The breakthrough came after the gang abducted Barrister Henry Chichi from his residence at an estate in Karu, Abuja, on August 16, 2025. According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, the hoodlums forcefully broke into the barrister’s home and whisked him away to an undisclosed location.
Upon receiving the distress report, the FCT Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately swung into action, launching a tactical manhunt. Intense pressure from operatives forced the kidnappers to release their victim, who was successfully rescued on August 17, 2025.
The police pursuit did not stop there. Acting on intelligence, operatives tracked and intercepted the gang members along the Guraku axis of the Nasarawa–FCT Highway after their getaway vehicle lost control. While some managed to escape, the gang leader, Masud Abdullahi of Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, and his associate, Muhammad Tahir of Jos, Plateau State, were arrested on the spot.
Further investigation led the police to the criminals’ hideout in Karshi Forest, Nasarawa State, where another gang member, identified as Kabiru Jibril, was apprehended.
Items recovered from the syndicate’s hideout include: N7.4 million cash, three AK-47 rifles with magazines, one G3 rifle with magazine, sixteen rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, and a Tecno handset.
SP Adeh noted that the command remains resolute in its commitment to rid the FCT and surrounding states of violent criminals, assuring residents that kidnappers and their sponsors will continue to meet the full weight of the law.
The arrest marks a major success in the fight against banditry and kidnapping in the FCT, as security agencies intensify efforts to restore peace and confidence among residents.
