Public universities must conclude by October, private by November, and others by December, The Board warns against delays
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a sweeping directive to all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, mandating that the 2025 admission exercise be completed before the end of the year.
In a bulletin released on Monday, the Board stressed that public universities must wrap up their admission processes on or before October 31, 2025, while private universities have until November 30, 2025. Other tertiary institutions, including polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions are given a final deadline of December 31, 2025.
According to JAMB, the decision was part of the resolutions reached at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, chaired by the Minister of Education. The Board explained that the timelines are aimed at stabilising Nigeria’s academic calendar and promoting fairness in access to higher education opportunities.
JAMB cautioned institutions against flouting the directive, insisting that the deadlines must be observed irrespective of whether or not their new academic session is ready to commence. “Even where an institution is not ready to begin a new session, such an institution should conduct its admission and archive it,” the bulletin noted.
The Board also charged schools still conducting post-UTME screening exercises to expedite the process, warning that delays could jeopardize compliance with the stipulated timelines. With this move, JAMB is seeking to entrench discipline and consistency in the admission calendar, ensuring that students across all tertiary institutions are given equal opportunities within a standardized framework.
