‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the August 16 by-elections conducted across 16 constituencies in 12 states of the federation, describing the exercise as a step forward in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

‎In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for organizing what he called “hitch-free polls” that were largely devoid of violence. He noted that the successful conduct of the elections has further reinforced confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

‎According to the official results released by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) clinched two seats. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won one constituency each.

‎President Tinubu particularly applauded the APC family for what he described as an emphatic triumph, the first under the leadership of the party’s new National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda. He also congratulated APC governors, leaders, and party faithful across the country for their commitment to unity and teamwork, which, according to him, made the victories possible.

‎“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has already shown strong leadership capacity and demonstrated what is possible when popular candidates are fielded and party leaders work together with unity of purpose,” the President said.

‎Reassuring Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to its development agenda, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the electorate for trusting the APC with their mandate. “To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not just a phrase. Our goal remains a better, more secure, and prosperous Nigeria, and by the Grace of God, we shall get there,” he said.

‎Beyond his party’s success, the President also extended congratulations to all other political parties and candidates who participated in the elections. He urged them to embrace the values of fair competition, sportsmanship, and magnanimity, which he described as vital ingredients for strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

‎With the by-elections concluded peacefully, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s determination to deliver on its promises, noting that the victories recorded were both a call to service and a fresh reminder of the responsibility entrusted to leaders at all levels.
