In Nigeria’s ever-evolving political terrain, one name continues to command respect, admiration, and unwavering attention, Chief (Barr.) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Wike to oversee the FCT, many expected energy, but few could have predicted the massive wave of transformation that would follow.
Today, the FCT stands as a living testimony to Wike’s administrative brilliance, with visible infrastructural projects, cleaner cityscapes, and renewed governmental efficiency. Under his leadership, Abuja has become a construction site of progress, a symbol of what visionary governance can achieve. “Mr. Project,” as he is fondly called, has once again proven that leadership is not about rhetoric, but about results.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), once the pride of Nigerian democracy, faced its most difficult moment after the 2015 presidential defeat. The party that had governed Nigeria for sixteen consecutive years, and once boasted a bold dream of sixty uninterrupted years in power, suddenly found itself displaced, disoriented, and divided. The shock of that defeat was monumental. The center failed to hold, and many of those who were looked upon for direction became passive or absent. Confidence waned, and the once-formidable opposition drifted into political limbo.
But as history has often shown, true leaders emerge in times of crisis. It was during this period of uncertainty that Chief Nyesom Wike stepped forward, not only as a party man but as a stabilizing force with a fierce sense of purpose. With determination and vision, he rekindled hope within the PDP family, transforming despair into determination. His leadership was not just administrative, it was inspirational. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Wike embodied the words: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Through sheer will and organizational strength, he repositioned the PDP for the 2019 presidential election, giving Nigerians a credible opposition that stood tall and proud. Though victory eluded the party, Wike’s loyalty never wavered. His love for the PDP remained unshakable, his resolve unbroken.
Chief Wike’s leadership style is rooted in justice, fairness, and reward for excellence. He is a leader who believes in equality, who values hard work, and who speaks truth to power even when it is inconvenient. During the turbulent 2023 election cycle, when the PDP was torn apart by internal wrangling, it was Wike’s resilience that kept the party afloat. His straightforwardness, bold decision-making, and people-first approach gave the party a semblance of stability amidst chaos. “Leadership is not about being in charge,” as Simon Sinek once said, “it is about taking care of those in your charge.” Chief Wike embodies this truth.
Every great leader attracts critics, and Wike is no exception. His boldness, honesty, and unwillingness to compromise principles have made him a target of constant political attacks. Yet, those who cast stones at him often forget the biblical reminder: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Most of his critics, ironically, are guilty of the very things they accuse him of. They fear his courage, envy his results, and misunderstand his methods. But one thing remains undeniable, Wike’s record speaks louder than any accusation.
At this decisive stage in Nigeria’s political history, the PDP must unite under Wike’s leadership and guidance. His directives are not born of personal ambition, but of genuine passion to reposition the party for relevance and success. Wike represents focus, direction, and discipline, qualities the PDP urgently needs to rebuild its internal democracy and reconnect with the grassroots. “Loyalty to the party means loyalty to progress,” and at this moment, progress has a face, Chief Nyesom Wike.
In a nation yearning for leaders who deliver on promises, Chief Nyesom Wike stands as a refreshing example of performance-driven governance. His vision is clear, his results are tangible, and his passion for Nigeria is unquestionable. He has proven beyond doubt that leadership is about impact, integrity, and inspiration. Therefore, as a political observer and analyst, I, Comrade Joseph Agamah, affirm without hesitation that the PDP must embrace and support Wike’s leadership wholeheartedly. His dedication to the growth of the party, his courage to confront challenges, and his consistent record of delivery make him not just a politician, but a nation builder. “To ignore the wisdom of a visionary is to embrace the confusion of the lost,” and the PDP cannot afford to be lost again.
Nyesom Wike’s leadership of the PDP is not accidental, it is purposeful. His passion for development, his commitment to fairness, and his relentless drive for results reflect the kind of leadership Nigeria desperately needs. For a prosperous, united, and progressive PDP, members must yield to Wike’s leadership and directives. He means well for the party, and his track record, both in Rivers State and now in the FCT, stands as proof of his capacity, credibility, and character. In the final analysis, history will remember not those who opposed progress, but those who stood for unity and vision. “Great leaders don’t tell you what to do, they show you how it’s done.” And Wike has shown, time and again, how leadership should be done.
