The Plateau State Police Command has moved to reassure residents after the state’s Universal Basic Education Board ordered all basic schools to close temporarily due to heightened security concerns.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, the Command said it fully understands the concerns raised by the public and is taking decisive steps to protect students, teachers, and communities across the state. The police described the closure of schools as a precaution designed to strengthen the security network around educational institutions and avert potential threats.

According to the statement, Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina has instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Units to intensify surveillance and expand operations to prevent any disruption of peace or public order. Patrols have been increased around schools, residential areas, and other key locations as part of broader preventive actions now underway.

The Command further revealed that its intelligence units are working around the clock to gather and analyze information that could help detect or neutralize emerging risks. Security agencies, it emphasized, are coordinating closely to maintain calm and ensure that no gaps are left unaddressed.

While acknowledging the inconvenience the school closure may cause families, the police appealed for understanding, stressing that the safety of children remains paramount. Officials encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police formation, noting that strong collaboration between the public and security agencies is essential to preventing threats before they escalate.

The Command assured parents and guardians that every effort is being made to restore normalcy quickly so academic activities can resume without fear. Emergency contact numbers for the Plateau State Police Control Room were also provided, reinforcing the Command’s commitment to maintaining stability across the state.
