Police Officer Swift joint response by security operatives foils mass abduction as women and children are safely reunited with families
Security operatives in Zamfara State have rescued 25 residents, 10 women and 15 children, after armed bandits launched a night assault on Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government.
The incident occurred late Friday when a large group of armed attackers stormed the community, firing into the air and forcing residents into panic. According to a statement issued by the state Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the bandits abducted the victims during the raid before attempting to flee the area.
Upon receiving an emergency alert, a coordinated security response was immediately activated. Patrol teams from the Damba Division and the Department of Operations in Gusau, working alongside the Community Protection Guards (CPG), mobilised to the scene. The operatives tracked the fleeing attackers and confronted them in what authorities described as a strategic and well-executed operation.
The police spokesperson said the professionalism and rapid action of the security personnel led to the successful rescue of all abducted victims without injury. The women and children were moved to Sabongari Damba for safety checks and documentation before being reunited with their families.
Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, praised the officers involved for their bravery and assured the public of the command’s continued commitment to protecting communities across the state.
The incident adds to a worrying pattern of coordinated attacks in recent days across Nigeria. On 17 November, 25 students were abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. A day later, worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State were targeted, resulting in several casualties and multiple abductions. On 21 November, another mass kidnapping occurred at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, where hundreds of pupils and teachers were taken.
Authorities say security efforts are being intensified nationwide to curb the surge in coordinated assaults and to protect vulnerable communities.
